Safeguarding

Safeguarding at Strelley

We believe that safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility.

At Djanogly Strelley Academy we are committed to keep our children safe from harm.

Mr Jeffs and Mrs Gray-Blest are named Designated Safeguarding Leaders but we know that everyone has a responsibility to safeguard and protect children.  We will always take action to protect a child from harm and inform the relevant agencies.

At Djanogly Strelley Academy we strive to safeguard and promote the welfare of all of our children.  Our children’s welfare is of paramount importance and we promote an ethos where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, are listened to and feel safe.  Children at our academy know that they can talk to us if they are worried or concerned about something.

Djanogly Strelley Academy fully recognises the contribution it can make to protect and support children in school.   We aim to foster an honest, open, caring and supportive climate.  We adopt an open and accepting attitude towards children as part of our responsibility for pastoral care. Staff hope that children and parents will feel free to talk about any concerns and will see school as a safe place when there are difficulties. Children’s worries and fears will be taken seriously and children are encouraged to seek help from members of staff.

We will:

  • Establish and maintain an ethos where children feel secure and are encouraged to talk, knowing that they will be listened to
  • Ensure that children know that there are adults in the school whom they can approach if they are worried or are in difficulty
  • Include in the curriculum activities and opportunities for PSHE/Citizenship which equip children with the skills they need to stay safe from harm
  • Ensure every effort is made to establish effective working relationships with parents and colleagues from other agencies
  • Operate safe recruitment procedures and make sure that all appropriate checks are carried out on new staff and volunteers who will work with our children.
