Phonics Screening 2019
Thank you to all parents that came to our Phonics Screening meetings! For anyone who couldn't make it here are some of the points that were shared.
Monday 10th June 2019 is the start of the 2 weeks that our children take the Phonics Screening Test. This is a one to one assessment of the children's phonics ability done with a familiar member of staff normally Mrs Hallam. It is made up of 40 words both real and made up and the children use their sounds to blend the word and say it out loud.
At Djanogly Strelley Academy we call it our Phonics Challenge, we keep a relaxed feel to the test, our children love to come out and spend time reading the words. Below is a link to watch an example of the Phonics Screening to give you an idea of what its like.
What can you do to help!
If you have any questions about the screening or Phonics in general please come to ask Mrs Hallam. There are links at the bottom of the page to some great phonics websites. The Alphablocks parents guide is especially useful and the link is below.
Our Quest question this half term is What makes nature record breaking?
Children will have the opportunity to touch and hold animals, when we are visited by the Wildlife Workshop!
Our Quest question this half term is: When did we have the most fun?
We will be travelling back in time and exploring the toys that children played with. Looking at what they were made out of and how they worked. Our first stop will be the 1970's and 1960's. Look out for pictures coming soon!
Our Whole School Quest question is: Where are the treasures of the world?
Our Y1 Quest question this term is: Where would you find these treasures?
We have been finding out about countries in the United Kingdom and . We have also looked at hot and cold countries around the world and explored what their treasures were.
As part of our science investigation, we used our science skills to investigate how to keep frozen treasures safe.
We also had an exciting trip to the National Ice Arena in Nottingham. It was great fun!
Children have settled in really well into Y1 this half term and have made a great start to the new school year. We look forward to discussing your child's progress with you in more detail during parents evening next half term.
Remember to look at the curriculum letter for parents to see all the exciting things your children have been learning each term.
