WE GOT THIS, LET’s KEEP IT UP!

Phonics to support learning at home
Today a YouTube channel was launched to support children and parents with phonics while we are away from school. I have taken a look and I think it will really help the children keep in touch with their phonics lessons. There are three different levels, Learning to blend, Reception and Year 1. At DSA, we group our children so their lessons are exactly where they need to be. The online lessons can’t be done that way so it is a best fit. Have a look at the video that shows examples from all three levels and see which one seems best for your child. You can always message your child’s class teacher if you are unsure. Please don’t worry if your Year 1 child needs the Learning to blend or Reception video, it is far better that they are on the level they need. The links are below. If you start with Lesson 1 tomorrow, it doesn't matter that we are a day behind, just follow them in order.

Any questions please ask!

Wk 3 week beginning 20.04.20

Morning everyone!

Hope everyone has had a lovely two week break. It has been lovely to see what you have been doing over the holidays!

REMINDER: We will use a variety of different activities to set our work for the week, primarily from Busy Things, Mathletics and Teach Your Monster to Read but not all set assessments and not all online. Activities might also include games or creative activities such as drawing, reading or PE and, of course, sharing pictures of you having fun!

If we were in school, we would have started our new Quest topic of ‘How do we discover the world?’ This is a wonderful topic that looks at the world around us, including animals, seasons, weather, materials and African art! Our favourite topic during this half term has got to be learning about the Tinga Tinga tales in English. They are beautiful stories from Africa and are available on BBC iPlayer and YouTube. So, what we have decided to do is try and set some work that is linked to what we would have been learning if we were in school. This topic definitely includes lots of fun activities that can be done at home and we are looking forward to seeing what you all get up to!

Class Dojo will be used to share other tasks/ games and generally keeping in touch over the coming weeks. We would love to see all the things the children are doing and if possible we will be sharing videos of us teaching and reading stories that the children can watch!

So, for this week here are our set tasks:
• Tinga Tinga- Children to watch these three stories and create a comic strip summary on Busy Things:
o Why the zebra has stripes
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jo5niS-Vnc
o Why the giraffe was a long neck
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNUE2-htZZ0
o Why the rhino charges
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX8l-Md24tA
• Draw a picture of a character from one of the Tinga Tinga tales from this week- can you think of words to describe the character/ your drawing?
• Which animal is your favourite?
• Ordering how heavy are these objects?
• What time is it?- level 1
• Name the shapes
• Herbivore, omnivores, carnivores
• People who help us
• Hand washing activity poster
• Create a minibeast
• Tinga Tinga: African art (PowerPoint will be uploaded with more information)
• Mathletics
• Quest – African animal fact file
• Teach your monster to read

For the Busy Things tasks, on your account you will get notified of which tasks will need to be completed. It has been so amazing to see so many of you completing these tasks and we have definitely got competitive to see which class will complete the most Busy Things activities, winning the attendance award on a Friday! Alongside this, you have your set tasks on Mathletics. Some of you have completed nearly 20 or more tasks, which is outstanding!

We would really recommend keeping this up as we do take note of who has done each of the tasks we set throughout the week (along with the things you send) to be able to choose a Star of the Week! Mr Armstrong has told us how much he has enjoyed looking at all the things you are making on Busy Things and sharing on Dojo!

As always, any questions we are always here to help.
WE GOT THIS!

Wb 6.4.2020 Easter Break

For the next 2 weeks we will not be setting any new work for you to do at home. You can still access Busy things as well as Mathlectics, Teach Your Monster to Read and send us your pictures of the things you are doing at home on Class Dojo, we love seeing what you have been up to!

The Year 1 Team

Wk 2 Wk beginning 30.3.20

Morning everyone! We are onto week 2.

Last week was such a surreal experience, but it has been amazing to see how you are all keeping up with your work at home! Despite not being able to see you at school, the pictures you have sent in have been wonderful to see. Keep it up!

REMINDER: What we set for the week will use a variety of different activities, not all from Busy Things and not all set assessments. This might include games or activities such as drawing, reading or PE and sharing pictures of you having fun!

Class Dojo will be the main way we  use to share other tasks/ games and generally keeping in touch over the coming weeks, as well as keeping the website as up to date as possible.

So, for this week here are our set tasks:
• Length quiz
• Numerical order: objects
• Numerical order: written numbers to 10
• Ordering: how big is that animal?
• Parts of a plant
• Parts of a tree
• Name fruit
• Name veg
• My family project
• Build a space ship
• Mathletics
• Quest – junk model rocket
• Read a school book

For the Busy Things tasks, on your account you will get notified of which tasks will need to be completed. Alongside this, you have your set tasks on Mathletics. This is a massive step up from last week as we have realised that what we sent was not a lot to keep everyone busy at home, and compared to other classes was minimal. Plus, we have got more of a grasp on how Busy Things works!
We do keep track of who has completed the tasks and we use this (along with the things you send) and teach your Monster to Read Data to be able to choose a Star of the Week! Mr Armstrong has already told me how much he has enjoyed looking at all the crazy things you are making on there!

As always, any questions we are here to help either on ClassDojo or call the office and someone will get in touch with us.

LET’S GO WEEK 2

Autumn 1:

Our Whole School Quest question is: Where are the treasures of the world?

Our Y1 Quest question this term is: Where would you find these treasures?

We have been finding out about countries in the United Kingdom and . We have also looked at hot and cold countries around the world and explored what their treasures were.

As part of our science investigation, we used our science skills to investigate how to keep frozen treasures safe.

We also had an exciting trip to the National Ice Arena in Nottingham. It was great fun!

Children have settled in really well into Y1 this half term and have made a great start to the new school year. We look forward to discussing your child's progress with you in more detail during parents evening next half term.

Remember to look at the curriculum letter for parents to see all the exciting things your children have been learning each term.

Phonics

Thank You to all those parents that came to our phonics meetings last week. Hopefully you found them helpful and informative. Below are some of the links that were talked about as well as a video of a child in another school taking the phonics screening.

Please remember that we are always available to answer any questions you have, drop a message via Class Dojo and we can arrange a time.
