Acorns Focused Provision Unit
About Us
Acorns unit is a separate focus provision unit for children with an Autism diagnosis and an EHCP. Our 16-placed, focused provision unit has two classrooms, a sensory room, a calm room, accessible toilets, a kitchen area with cooking facilities, a playground and play equipment. Applegate Class is our Key Stage 1 classroom and Wiltshire Class is our Key Stage 2 classroom.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ADMISSIONS TO ACORNS ARE MANAGED THROUGH THE LOCAL AUTHORITY AND NOT THROUGH THE MAIN SCHOOL ADMISSIONS POLICY AND PROCEDURES.
Our Aims
To offer an aspirational educational program that prepares learners for key transitions and adulthood.
To create a safe and purposeful learning environment where pupils can build secure and trusting relationships.
To provide pupils with opportunities to understand the world around them and experience a rich curriculum focused on experiential learning and cultural capital.
To promote independence by teaching essential skills in social communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, self-care, and autonomy.
To equip pupils with the skills needed for a happy and independent life, balancing personal development and academic achievement.
To encourage positive behaviour and celebrate achievements, recognizing all the small steps our pupils take.
To work in partnership and promote shared responsibility among specialists, staff, parents, and carers.
Our Curriculum
The Acorns Focused Provision delivers a nurturing and highly personalised SEN curriculum designed to support every child’s individual needs. Using the EQUALS curriculum, we offer two distinct pathways—Informal and Semi-Formal—each carefully tailored to promote communication, play and independence. Our Semi-Formal pathway also provides rich learning experiences through subjects such as My RSE, My Art, My Music, My Drama and My Dance, allowing pupils to explore creativity, self-expression and personal development. Learning is further enhanced through regular trips within the local community, including visits to the library and the park, helping pupils generalise skills in real-life contexts.
In addition, our Year 5 pupils take part in swimming sessions, building confidence and physical skills in a supportive environment. Together, these opportunities ensure Acorns pupils learn, grow and thrive in a setting designed uniquely for them.
