What we learn - Our Big Idea
At Djanogly Strelley Academy, our PSHE curriculum helps children to become healthy, safe, independent and responsible members of our community. Pupils will develop the knowledge and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.
Our approach
PSHE aims to help pupils understand how they are developing personally and socially, as well as learn about moral, social and cultural issues so they they have a well-rounded understanding of the world around them. PSHE is integral to the development of children values for them to become positive citizens in changing and diverse communities. Our curriculum develops the knowledge, skills and attributes, where prior learning is revisited, reinforced and extended year on year. It gives children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positives relationships with themselves and others.
Curriculum overview
Our PSHE curriculum is organised into 3 main overarching topics. These group the knowledge, skills and understanding that we want children to remember, do and use. It is taught weekly and there are occasions where teachers may feel it necessary to have additional sessions to support their own class needs and development.
The 3 main overarching topics are: Relationships, Living in the World and Health and Wellbeing.
