Welcome to Brown Class
Staffing

Mrs Bamford will also support in class one morning a week to cover planning and training time
Contact
Staff will be on the door daily during drop off and pickups, where we can share quick bursts of information about your child’s day however time is short at these points of the day. If you would like to speak about something in more depth, please contact Mrs Harper via Class Dojo, who will be delighted to arrange an appointment for after school.

Changing
If your child is in nappies, they will have one routine change per session, and any additional changes as required. Please send your child with enough nappies and wipes each day for multiple changes and please provide a full change of clothing.
When you are ready to start your potty training journey, please talk with your child’s keyworker about what you are doing at home, so we can support with familiar routines in school. The children will have access to toilets specifically designed with 2 year olds in mind!

Clothing
There are no uniform expectations for children in Brown Class however, should you wish to wear one, the uniform is black or grey bottoms, and a jumper. We ask that children are dressed in comfortable and flexible clothing that allows them to move freely and ask that expensive or designer clothing is saved for home. We can get messy in nursery! Children must have full, comfortable and supportive shoes.
No Crocs or sandals please – they are not safe for running and climbing.
We are an all-weather nursery, and children will have access to the outdoor environment in all weather conditions, where safe to do so. Children will need to be dressed for the weather conditions of the day. Please label all items of clothing clearly.
Snack time
Children will need to bring a snack and a water bottle with them each day. Please label all bottles and containers with their name.
Following the DfE Nutrition guidance, which states that children should only have balanced and nutritious snacks whilst in early years settings, we ask that children do not bring cakes, sweet biscuits, pastries, salty snacks and crisps or sweets with them.
Children can bring:
- Fresh fruit (grapes to and other small fruits to be cut into quarters to reduce the risk of choking)
- Starchy snacks such as plain and unsalted crackers, rice cakes or breadsticks.
- Dairy foods such as hard cheeses (Babybel, cheddar etc) or yoghurt and fromage frais pouches.
Learning Time
Children will be taught and assessed within the Early Years Statutory Framework (EYFS) with a big focus on the Prime Areas of learning, which are Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED). During their nursery sessions, children will take part in short, adult-led activities designed to develop language, vocabulary skills and key PSED behaviours such as turn taking and sharing. During the rest of the time, children will access the continuous provision, leading their own learning through choosing to follow their own interests in play. The adults will support their learning through quality interactions and challenging children to extend their learning.
Each week, your child will have the opportunity to take home a Story Bag. This contains a storybook to share at home and resources to enhance the enjoyment of the story. You will be able to come in and choose a story bag together once a week.
Assessment
Whilst in Brown Class, we will complete the Two Year Progress Check at some point before your child turns 3 years old. This is a statutory assessment point which will be completed with you. Your child’s keyworker will arrange an appointment for this to be completed when it is time, and the assessment will be shared with your health visitor and their nursery teacher when it is time for them to move up.
Next Steps
Your child will move into the 3-4 nursery (Emmett Class) , the school term after they turn 3 years old. The child will begin to have some visits and settling in sessions in the weeks leading up to the transition.
Our 3-4 nursery does have some availability for children of working families to attend for 30 hours. Please check for eligibility via Asklion.co.uk
