Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Children have special educational needs if they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. At Djanogly Strelley Academy we are committed to ensuring that all children achieve their greatest potential and we work in partnership with parents, pupils, health, social and other support services to ensure the best possible provision at our school.
Children with special educational needs and disabilities are monitored closely by the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), who chairs regular meetings with all parties involved and ensures that progress is continuously monitored.

Speech and Language and Communication Therapy
Speech, Language and Communication Therapy supports pupils who have difficulties with:
- Speech (how sounds are made and spoken clearly)
- Language (understanding and using words and sentences)
- Communication (using language socially, including interaction, attention and listening)
At Djanogly Strelley Academy, we provide the three tier approach model, this endorses the approach that it is everyone's responsibility to support Speech, Language and Communication.

Sherisse Green
Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Sherisse has worked as Djanogly Strelley’s Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) since 2023. She provides direct speech and language therapy with identified children who need extra support in school. Speech therapy is always done in a collaborative approach, so that child centred targets can be set with teaching staff (and parents). Staff also receive specialist training from Sherisse and classrooms are supported to be communication friendly. If parents have any concerns they can always talk with Sherisse, the SENCo or Lead SaLT Teaching Assistant.
Sherisse is a highly experienced SaLT, working since 2009. After 6 years working with the NHS, Sherisse moved into the private sector to provide a more personal service. Sherisse has vast experience working with 2-19-year-olds in a number of settings including health centres, nurseries, mainstream schools, special schools, specialist Autism schools & homes.
It is her passion in life to help children achieve their full communication potential.
